August 28 One more tournament
From September 29 till October 1 there is Alita Cup 2000 in Alytus, Lithuania. The teams taking part in the tournament are Ventspils (Latvia), BC Kiev (Ukraine), Ural Great (Russia) and the host team Alita.

Russian Olympic NT won the game against Croatian NT 82-78 at the friendly tournament in Angere, France. Sergei Chikalkin scored 14 points, Alexander Bashminov - 4 points.
Russia - Angola  83-64 (42:27).

Sergei Belov got his technical foul. During the last 3 minutes of the second half and in overtime Ural Great was playing without "big" (Javtokas, Sheiko, Rybalko and Laletin got 5 fouls each). Molchanov and Sirvydis did not play because of injuries. Sundberg has not left for Iran yet because of the problem with his Iranian visa.

Iranian Young Men NT was playing well for the first three minutes only  (7-7) until Roman Dvinyaninov entered the game and Ural Great started gaining advantage at once: 13-22. Only free throws helped Iranains to avoid great difference in score. Andrei Sheiko was called MVP of the game in Ural Great.
Seth Sundberg has already arrived to Tehran and is going to play today in the game against the German team.

The game began rather close. Ural Great started with three guards - Tomas Pacesas, Rytis Vaisvila and Alexei Pegushin together with Andrei Laletin and Arturas Javtokas. Ural Great was 7 points ahead a minute and a half left to the end of the first half. Last second were referees' (both from Iran) time to "play" and the teams left for the break 34-33. In the middle of the second half Ural Great had +9 points, but again it was time for the referees to participate in the game for the German team. And three minutes to the end of the second half the score was even and it marked the end of basketball for the day - 62-60 and thirty seconds left.. Last attack of our opponents... and free throws to our hoop. Belov led his team away from the court and ...  62-62. The overtime started with the  technical foul to Belov and followed with 19 free throws of Germans to 2 of Russians and finally resulted in the loss of Ural Great.

The game started with fast breaks of Ural Great and during both half times our team was ahead. GSP tried to hit the basket with long-distance shots, but it did not help them much, while Ural Great managed practically everything. The good ending of the tournament and traditional Iranial carpets to the champion!

August 6 First friendly games...
Ural Great has played first two friendly games this sesaon both against Revda Med from Russian First League.
5 August - Ural Great 136 - Revda Med 87. Arturas Javtokas led Ural Great with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Sundberg contributed with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
6 August - Ural Great 140 - Revda Med 52. Today top scorer is Alexander Rybalko with 22 points. Both Pegushin and Dvinyaninov added 20 points (100% FG) each and Sundberg in  17 minutes scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Before leaving for Iran Ural Great is planning to have a couple of friendly games more.
August 2 American Center for Try-out...

Seth Sundberg

Yesterday American center Seth Sundberg (216cm, 116kg, born 08.07.1975) arrived for try-out to Perm.
In the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons Sundberg played for the University of Hawai (NCAA) and averaged 10.0 points per game, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots.
The 1998-99 season - Piiloset (Finland): 16.7 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.43 blocked shots.
Last season he was in China (Notheast Tigers Jilin).
July 19 Mikhail Soloviev's vacations in Perm
Mikhail Soloviev News on Telebasket.com about Mikhail Soloviev's (St. Polten, Austria) testing in Ural Great is wrong.
Mikhail is on his vacation now and has decided to accept his friend Andrei Laletin's invitation to visit him in Perm. They both studied in St. Petersburg basketball boarding school.
July 11 Assault on Ural Great player...
Tomas Pacesas Lithuanian mass media report that yesterday   there was an assault on Tomas Pacesas. Armed with sticks they aimed at his car.
His friend surgeon was the first doctor to help Tomas. We haven't got information about the details yet...

Northern European Basketball League

On June 16 NEBL officially presented the list of 16 teams that will participate in the NEBL Championship 2001...
Ural Great from Perm is among the six newcomers of the League.

According to Sport Express the schedule is not settled yet, but NEBL plans three tours in Russia, two ot them in Perm (the first - Ural Great, CSKA, Kiev and Broceni, the second - Ural Great, CSKA, Honka and Kalev) and one in Moscow (CSKA,Ural Great, Zalgiris and Plannja Basket).

Today preliminary information on Ural Great team roster for the next season has been announced.
The contracts of Roy Tarpley, Sean Higgins, Donnell Thomas, Igor Kurashov and Konstantin Tarasenko are finished and they have left the team.
Roman Dvinyaninov, Andrei Laletin, Vyacheslav Shushakov and Alexander Rybalko are asked to come to participate in the pre-season training camp starting on July 1st.
We have got some new players:
- Bronze medallist of the Olympic Games in Atlanta (1996) Rytis Vaisvila (Klaipeda, 25.03.1971, 194 cm, 93 kg, position 1/2). This season he has played several games for ToPo, Helsinki. In three games of the regular championship of Finland he averaged 17.7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 37 minutes. He also played 2 games in Saporta Cup - 12.5 points.
- Virginijus Sirvydis (Vilnius, 23.08.1973, 196 cm, 90 kg, position 2/3). Lithuanian regular championship - Sakalai (39 games): 15.6 points, 3 rebounds, 28 minutes. Saporta Cup: 11 games, 15.7 points.

With 23 points deficit in the first half Ural Great was b enough to break the play and win the hardest away game in Kazan ... 
Now we are at least the second Russian Championship.

On April 14 General Director of Ural Great Basketball Club Sergei Kushchenko is leaving for Vilnius to NEBL Final Four. In the morning of April 16 there is presentation of clubs applying for participation in the Northern European League in 2000-2001 season. Ural Great is among them :-)

Yesterday night NEBL Commissioner Sarunas Marciulionis came to Perm. Staying in our city just one day he is going to evaluate the level of Perm hotels and watch Ural Great vs CSKA game in Molot Sport Hall.

Dan Coyle in the office of Ural Great Today Dan Coyle, writer for Men's Journal has come to Perm. For several days he is going to talk to Club managers, coaches and players, watch practicies and home games and participate in some other events of Ural Great.
March 22 Friendly game Atletas vs Ural Great
The last friendly game of Ural Great in its Lithuanian tour finished 87:87 (46:40). They decided not to have overtime as the home team was playing very important games of the Lithuanian championship next days. Just one interesting detail of the game: Lithuanians scored 12 three-pointers. Donnell Thomas was the top scorer in our team with 21 points.

Northern European Basketball League

Today there has been a meeting of Ural Great management and NEBL Commissioner Sarunas Marciulionis. NEBL delegation is planning to come to Perm on April 5 and watch the home game of Ural Great vs CSKA.
Spartak (St.Petersburg) is also negotiating with Northern European Basketball League about their participation  next season.

March 16 Training Camp in Lithuania
Now we know our two opponents for friendly games.  On Monday, March 20 Ural Great plays against Sakalai and on March 21 - Siauliai. At present they are the 3rd and the 4th respectively in Lithuanian Championship. The third team will be announced later.

On March 14 Ural Great went to Lithuania to have training and play some friendly games. The schedule and future opponents are being negotiated.

On March 7 at the game against Ural Great CSKA is represented by the team from the first league. Top managers of CSKA BC explain it that the main team is getting ready for the important game decisive for them in Eighth-Final round of Euroleague against Cibona (Croatia)...
